The largest pig slaughterhouse in Latin America is being built near the city of Assis-Chateaubriand, Parana, Brazil, and in ten years it will have a capacity of 23,300 pigs per day. The construction site was opened in October 2020 on 148,000 sq.m and consists of four stages of implementation to achieve the goal set by the investors.

It is predicted that at the first stage of operation, which will last from 2023 to 2025, the slaughter capacity of the new slaughterhouse will be 3,700 heads per day. At the second stage, from 2026 to 2028, the total number of slaughters will be 7,500 heads per day, and at the final stage, from 2029 to 2031, 11,200 heads per day should be slaughtered.

“Currently, our slaughter capacity is 8,300 pigs per day. According to the forecast for the 4th phase of work, which is scheduled for completion in 2032, 23,300 pigs per day will be slaughtered, summing up the operations of the units in Medianeira and Maréchal Candido,” emphasizes Frimesa CEO Elias José Zidek. The new project is planned to be invested 611 million dollars in order to achieve the goal of slaughter planned by investors.

“This new slaughterhouse will contribute to the development of pig production in the western region of Paraná in the long term,” added Mr. Zidek. “In 10 years, the slaughter at Frimesa will triple, which will give producers the opportunity to increase pig production, generating and diversifying income. Pig farming will have technological and HEALTH advances, providing consumer safety and more income in the production chain,” he concluded.
