Six farms in the Tomsk region purchased nine Galloway breeding bulls that came to the region from the Smolensky Galloway breeding center. An agreement on the delivery was reached between representatives of the Department for the Social and Economic Development of the Village of the Tomsk Region and specialists from the Smolensky Galloway center this winter, during the main agricultural exhibition Prodexpo-2023 in Moscow.
At the moment, Galloways have come to three districts of the region - Tomsk, Shegarsky and Krivosheinsky. Bychkov was received by Spas LLC, peasant (farm) enterprises of Aeyan, Gusev, Mikushin, Petrov and Shabarov.
As you know, Galloway is a breed of MEAT direction. Representatives of this breed are famous for their unpretentiousness, strength and endurance. The breed is also valued for the fact that Galloways easily endure Siberian frosts. Their long coat serves a dual purpose: a rough outer layer keeps out wind and rain, while a soft undercoat provides insulation and waterproofing. Scientists do not know where the Galloway breed acquired polledness, because at the beginning representatives of this breed had horns, but then selection began on the basis of polledness, so today the Galloway does not have horns. The breed is positioned as one of the best for grazing, as Galloways eat coarse grasses and shoots that other breeds of cattle avoid and are not afraid of predators.
“The thoroughbred animals were delivered to the region by road, the road was well tolerated and now they are already in their new farms. Galloway breeding bulls are a great way to renew the breed and improve the genetics of the Tomsk beef cattle herd,” said Alexander Savenko, Deputy HEAD of the Department for Socio-Economic Development of the Village.
We add that all farms will be able to receive subsidies to reimburse part of the costs associated with the purchase of breeding farm animals under the Livestock Development Program.
For reference
There are 500 heads of Galloway cattle in the Tomsk region. This is 5.2% of the total number of beef cattle.
