China: pork production and imports to rise in 2023

China's pork production is projected to reach 55.5 million metric tons (Mt) in 2023, a modest increase. Manufacturers are expected to respond to higher consumer demand once domestic covid restrictions are lifted. Further growth in pork production will be limited by the price of pork.

In 2023, pork imports are expected to grow by almost 4% year-on-year to reach 2.2 million tons due to increased consumer demand after the lifting of COVID-related restrictions, but further growth will be constrained by an increase in domestic production.
