Horticulture is a priority branch of agriculture in the Republic of Dagestan. As of January 1, 2022, the area of orchards is almost 29 thousand hectares, of which 22 thousand hectares are in fruit-bearing age.
Last year, the republic received a record-breaking gross harvest of fruits and berries - more than 200 thousand tons, which is 9.9% more than in 2020.
In recent years, intensive horticulture has been actively developing in the republic, the total area of such gardens is about 4 thousand hectares, of which more than 2 thousand hectares are fruit-bearing. In the context of the municipal districts of the republic, the largest area of intensive gardens falls on the Khasavyurt district, more than 600 hectares of intensive and super-intensive gardens are concentrated here.
In order to get acquainted with the development of horticulture, the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan Sharip Sharipov visited a number of horticultural farms in the Khasavyurt region. He was accompanied by the HEAD of the Department of Agriculture of the district, Idris Zagalov, and the head of the Association of Farmers and Agricultural Cooperatives of Dagestan, Abdurakhman Aburikov.
KFH "Alimirzaeva" has 65 hectares of gardens. SPK "Ibragim" owns 120 hectares of orchards. Sadovoe LLC is also engaged in growing fodder crops and raising livestock. Today, spring pruning of trees has already begun in the gardens of these farms, in particular, plum plantations are being prepared for the new vegetative season. Taking into account the specifics of care work in intensive gardens, the best experts from the Krasnodar Territory were invited to conduct training seminars. The Union of Horticulturalists of Dagestan, which includes more than 70 horticultural farms of the republic, begins to play a great job in uniting gardeners, in attracting methodological, innovative and consulting support for them.
Commenting on what he saw, the First Deputy Minister noted that Dagestan has a huge potential in horticulture, thanks to the support from the Ministry of Agriculture of RUSSIA and the leadership of Dagestan, there is an accelerated development of this industry. The result of such attention is the fact that in the commodity sector (agricultural organizations and peasant farms) of Dagestan in 2021, more than 24 thousand tons of fruits were harvested, which is 75% more than in 2020.
“The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan is doing a lot of work with the heads of farms aimed at ensuring compliance with the established requirements of agricultural technology, since without strict compliance with the stipulated technological operations it is difficult to count on the effective development of the industry. Planting a garden is not the most difficult thing, it all starts then, it requires constant and comprehensive monitoring of gardens, the implementation of appropriate measures, including nutrition, protection and irrigation.
In this regard, today we are calling on our gardeners to observe the development of plants for the timely adoption of appropriate agrotechnological decisions. Here we cannot do without the involvement of authoritative experts from different regions and even countries. In connection with the active development of intensive gardening, we see that it is necessary to rebuild the entire system of organizing work in intensive gardens, since fruit trees have increased requirements for soil fertility, irrigation, and protection from pests and diseases. Only relying on advanced agricultural technologies can we achieve the proper return on intensive orchards. In the coming days, on the eve of the start of active care work in our gardens, training seminars are planned to be held in the republic,” Sharip Sharipov noted.
He also added that more than 700 hectares of new gardens are planned to be planted in Dagestan this year. There are a number of horticultural farms in the republic - the flagships of the industry. First of all, it is LLC "Polosa" of the Suleiman-Stalsky district, where the largest super-intensive garden in Dagestan is concentrated. There are 412 hectares of orchards in this farm, of which 380 hectares are APPLE trees, 20 hectares are pear trees and 12 hectares are cherry trees. The best world technologies have been applied here, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic provides comprehensive support to this project.
Moreover, this farm has 1,000 hectares of hazelnuts, which is the largest hazelnut orchard in the Russian Federation and, according to experts, the largest in Europe. This year, this farm will begin the implementation of an investment project for the construction of the first stage (5 thousand tons) of a fruit storage with a total capacity of 50 thousand tons, which will radically change the situation with the supply of Dagestan fruits to consumers' tables in the off-season.
