Grodno resident sets fire to apartment door to calm noisy tenants: court delivers verdict

March 5, Grodno. The Leninsky District COURT of Grodno has issued a verdict in a criminal case on intentional damage to property committed in a generally dangerous manner. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent in the court.

According to the department, on January 3, 2025, at night, the accused, while in a state ofALCOHOL intoxication , on the third floor of the entrance of the house on Maksima Gorky Street in the regional center, he set fire to the front door of his neighbor's apartment with a lighter. In this way, he caused the victim property damage in the total amount of more than Br1 thousand.

The defendant admitted guilt in the charges brought against him, sincerely repented of the crime committed, voluntarily compensated for the damage caused by the crime. At the court hearing, he explained that at night he was in his apartment, could not sleep because the neighbors from above were making loud noise: shouting, singing songs. This angered him, he took a lighter, went up to the third floor to the door of the neighbors' apartment and began to set fire to the door from below. After the door began to burn, he returned to his own. In the afternoon, police officers came to him and detained him. He explained the reason for his behavior by being in a state of alcohol intoxication.

By the court's verdict, the accused was found guilty of intentional damage to someone else's property, committed in a generally dangerous manner. On the basis of Part 2 of Article 218 of the Criminal Code, he was sentenced to restriction of freedom for a period of 2 years without being sent to an open-type correctional facility.

The court's verdict has not entered into legal force and can be appealed and protested in accordance with the established procedure.
