According to the First Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Dagestan Sharip Sharipov, this year in Dagestan the area under open ground vegetables in the commercial sector (agricultural organizations and peasant farms) amounted to 2569 hectares, which is 763 hectares or 42% more than in 2022 .
The federal project launched this year to stimulate the development of open-ground vegetable growing and potato growing played a big role in this. He noted that Dagestan farmers were actively involved in the implementation of this federal project.
In order to study the progress of its implementation, Sharip Sharipov recently visited the Kumtorkala region. Together with the HEAD of the agricultural department of the region, Magomed Agayev, he got acquainted with the activities of the Uchkent agricultural enterprise. According to the deputy head of the farm, Magomed Imanmagomedov, the area under vegetables this year was about 125 hectares, of which almost 25 hectares are carrots , 4 hectares are beetroot, the remaining area is allocated to onions.
“This year it was decided to conduct an experiment on sowing late varieties of carrots, and as we can see, it was a success. One of these days we will start harvesting, the harvest can be stored immediately. This is the main advantage of sowing late varieties. We express our deep gratitude to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation and the leadership of the Republic of Dagestan for expanding state support measures for vegetable growing. We intend to further develop this direction,” the agrarian noted.
As Sharip Sharipov emphasized, Dagestan is one of the main producers of vegetables in the Russian Federation.
“We see that decisions made at the federal level resonate with Dagestan farmers. As part of the active measures taken by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture to develop this area, there is an expansion of space in the commodity sector, primarily for vegetables from the group of the so-called “borscht set”. The potential here is huge. The area, for example, under carrots in the republic is about 2 thousand hectares; this crop is mainly cultivated on private farms. Now the commodity sector of the agro-industrial complex has also become more active in this direction. This means that Dagestan farmers are increasing their contribution to solving problems of import substitution,” noted the First Deputy Minister.
