In this video, we talked with the famous Kazakh entrepreneur and philanthropist Baurzhan Ospanov about Kazakh traditions, we will talk about the arrangement of the yurt and its role in the life of nomads.
The Kazakh yurt has a conical shape with a clear proportion and is easy to assemble and transport, and its structure has been so perfected over hundreds of years that there is nothing superfluous in it. Everything is rational, simple and reliable.
The entrance to the yurt is closed with a canopy of felt, which prevents the penetration of cold at night in the mountains, or in winter. During the day, the canopy rolls up very quickly and becomes almost invisible.
The right part of the yurt is traditionally considered the male half. Therefore, immediately to the right of the wall is a nomad's weapon, which should always be at hand.
The left side is female, there is a place for dishes, a place where you can put a samovar, and a real one, on firewood, they are often used by Kazakhs until now. Nearby there are always cabinets or shelves for dishes, on which there are often wooden bowls for koumiss and shubat.
The walls of the yurts are decorated with ribbons and felts with traditional Kazakh patterns that reflect the curve of the horns, because among the Kazakhs the HEAD of a ram with horns symbolizes wisdom. Also, these woven decorations, in addition to the aesthetic function, also serve as additional thermal insulation.
The design of the yurt is crowned with a round hole, the symbol of which is depicted on the emblems of some Turkic peoples - shanyrak. Shanyrak is covered with a special part of the upholstery of the yurt - a tunic. It is in this way that the temperature and lighting in the yurt are regulated, which makes it possible to live quite comfortably in the yurt at any time of the year.
The floor is covered with felt. Behind the hearth, if it was in the center of the yurt, there is a dastarkhan. The side opposite from the entrance is called ter (throne). This place is honorary and guests are seated there.
