An increase in the incidence of CORONAVIRUS by autumn, as virologist Yevgeny Timakov said earlier, may occur, but it is not yet known how strong it can be. Larisa Popovich, DIRECTOR of the Institute for HEALTH Economics at the Higher School of Economics, told RBC about this.
According to her, this is a seasonal process, and respiratory diseases are activated in the autumn season. She explained that the increase in the incidence may be associated with the change of seasons, which weakens the immune system, with an increase in colds in bad weather, with climatic, temperature, and humidity conditions that increase the survival of viruses in the external environment.
“Whether there will be more cases this fall than last fall depends on how vaccination calls and protective measures are followed,” Popovich added.
Virologist, professor at Moscow State University, DOCTOR of Biology Alexei Agranovsky also confirmed to RBC that the return of people from vacations, the start of the work and school season could contribute to a new outbreak of covid-19 .
“If we achieve mass vaccination with Sputnik, then future outbreaks will be avoided. If we don’t reach it, we can expect new waves,” Agranovsky stressed.
