Ministry of Economy: the level of self-sufficiency of Belarus in the main food groups exceeds 100%

December 13, MINSK . The level of self-sufficiency of Belarus in the main food groups exceeds 100%. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Ministry of Economy with reference to data from the Economic Research Institute.

According to research data from the National Research Institute of Economic Research, over the period 1993-2022, Belarus increased grain production by 20.3%, MILK by 33.7%, and MEAT by 5.1%. Thanks to the comprehensive modernization and technical re-equipment of agricultural organizations, labor productivity in the industry has increased by more than 19 times.

The country has achieved the highest level of food self-sufficiency in the EAEU , which amounted to 96%. And for certain groups of products it is much higher: for dairy products - 266.9%, vegetable oil - 220%, SUGAR - 141%, meat - 133.2%, eggs - 125.6%, potatoes - 112.3%.

Agricultural production per capita in Belarus corresponds to the level of developed countries and in many respects exceeds the indicators achieved in the CIS countries. Per capita in 2022, 943 kg of grain, 418 kg of potatoes, 310 kg of vegetables, 853 kg of milk (this is one of the best indicators in the world), 132 kg of meat, 375 eggs were produced.

In the global food security ranking for 2022, our country is in 55th place out of 113 countries in the world and is characterized as a state with favorable food supply conditions.

In the world ranking of agricultural and food producers in 2022, Belarus ranked 6th in the production of skimmed milk powder, 10th in animal oil production, 12th in potato production, 15th in whole milk powder, 16th in rapeseed oil production. .

Over 30 years, the number of peasant (farm) farms has increased by 4.7 times, and their share in the total volume of agricultural production has increased by almost 14 times.
