In the Netherlands, the export of live pigs has decreased and slaughter has increased

In the first 20 weeks of this year, the EXPORT of slaughter pigs from the Netherlands decreased by almost 45% from 557,847 heads in 2020 to 308,317 heads in 2021, due to a decrease in exports to the main destination - Germany. Exports to Germany decreased by 50.9% from 539,044 heads in the first 20 weeks of 2020 to 264,660 heads in the same period of the current year.

This decline in exports of slaughter pigs led to a 5% increase in slaughter at Dutch slaughterhouses – 6,334,353 pigs slaughtered up to mid-May this year compared to 6,031,000 pigs in the same period in 2020
