January 4, Minsk . Viktor Rotchenkov, head of the Main Directorate of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, spoke on television about what 2025 would be like for State

Traffic Inspectorate officers, BelTA reports. Rotchenkov noted that on January 1, State Traffic Inspectorate officers detained 50 drivers who were driving while intoxicated.Alcohol intoxication . He emphasized that this is a large number, which continues to be a concern. "Fifty drivers were detained. Clearly, that's probably not all. But any misfortune could have befallen any of these drivers who were stopped by traffic police and held accountable," he said.
Another problem traffic police officers face in their work is drug-impaired drivers. Viktor Rotchenkov notes that identifying such drivers is somewhat more complex. However, there are a number of characteristics that traffic police officers notice when interacting with such drivers.

According to the head of the Main Directorate of the Traffic Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, more than 11,800 drunk drivers were identified in 2025. This figure is higher than in 2024. Moreover, Viktor Rotchenkov noted, there were fewer accidents involving such drivers. One of the important goals is to further reduce their number.

Furthermore, if we look at the problem of drunk driving over a 20-year period, the head of the Main Directorate of the Traffic Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasized that there has been a significant decline. However, the figure of more than 11,800 drunk drivers remains high.

In Belarus, according to preliminary data, the overall number of accidents will decrease by 6% in 2025, while the number of accidents involving injuries will decrease by 9%. "17 fewer people died in road accidents. If in 2024 the number of road users killed was 434, then in 2025 it will be 417," he said.

However, these figures also conceal negative trends. "The number of motorcycle fatalities has increased. Their numbers are growing, including motorcycles. I would like to cite the following statistic: in 2025, there will be 15,000 more motorcycles registered," he said, emphasizing the need to change and improve the methods of work and monitoring of such road users.

The State Traffic Inspectorate has already proposed increasing the number of practical training hours motorcycle drivers receive in driving schools. Furthermore, increased attention is needed to oversee the driving schools themselves, including how training is conducted and by which personnel. "All these issues and problems are already being discussed comprehensively. And we expect changes to the regulations soon," noted Viktor Rotchenkov.

By 2025, the number of vehicles in Belarus increased by 128,000. The total number of vehicles registered in Belarus has already exceeded 4.5 million.

Viktor Rotchenkov believes this growth is partly due to the fact that 74,000 drivers received their first driver's licenses in 2025. Furthermore, people's well-being is rising, and the number of vehicles in families is increasing.
