MEAT production in RUSSIA, along with MILK and bread, is the basis of the country's food security. In modern economic and political conditions, the level of meat production and its availability are one of the indicators of stability.
In the meat production sector, positive dynamics was recorded in February. The production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in farms of all categories in the Russian Federation increased in February compared to February last year. Also increased the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter in agricultural organizations. According to the results of the reporting period, agricultural enterprises accounted for about 87% of the total output of live meat.
In February 2022, the total production of meat and offal in Russia increased not only year-on-year, but also relative to January 2022. Meat production increased in almost all categories, except for beef. The growth in pork and poultry production is due to the introduction of new production facilities in a number of large companies in the meat sector. However, difficulties remain associated with insufficient provision of production with amino acids and feed additives. Threats of the spread of avian influenza and ASF also remain in a number of regions. A slight monthly decrease in beef production is due to a decrease in livestock, however, there is no shortage of beef on the market either, because. retail prices for beef are quite high, and the purchasing power of the population is not growing.

In February, meat prices showed multidirectional dynamics. Retail beef has risen in price, while pork and poultry have fallen in price, despite inflation. Retail mutton prices fell for cheaper meat and rose for boneless meat. Prices are significantly affected by inflationary processes in Russia and in the world, the increase in the cost of feed and bioadditives, and the increase in the cost of energy carriers, but this effect is restrained by the growth in production volumes, as well as by a fairly stable epizootic situation. And the main factor is the decrease in the purchasing power of the population, which for the most part lives in savings mode.

The meat industry in February, despite a number of problems caused by the pandemic, the rise in the cost of feed, energy, logistics services, currency fluctuations as a result of the military aggravation in Ukraine, showed a stable and well-coordinated work of the sector. The growth in production successfully resists inflation and does not allow meat prices to rise sharply, which could jeopardize the country's food security. State support for the agro-industrial complex has made it possible to increase production capacity and increase the production of meat, as the main source of protein and valuable nutrients.
