December 23, Gomel. A Gomel resident was hit by a freight train, Vladimir Tokarevsky, Deputy Gomel Transport Prosecutor, told BelTA.
The tragic incident occurred on December 22 at approximately 6:20 p.m. A 1984-born Gomel resident was injured on a Gomel-Kalinkovichi freight train at the 3rd kilometer of the Gomel-Nechetny - Gomel-Severny section. "It is known that the victim worked at a company in the regional center. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred after an argument with her husband when the woman approached a pedestrian crossing near Manevich Street in Gomel," the transport prosecutor's office reported.
The victim survived. She was hospitalized with a diagnosis of "traumatic amputation of both legs," the prosecutor's office explained.
This is the 10th such non-work-related injury since the beginning of
2025. Four people have died and six were injured in such incidents. In
2024 , there were 12 such incidents.

If you are intoxicated , do not leave young children unattended there, and do not use a mobile phone. While waiting on a passenger platform for an arriving train, seeing a train off, or crossing tracks, avoid using headphones. Also, do not cross tracks under train cars, when red lights are on, or in undesignated areas, or stand at the edge of a passenger platform. Holding onto the handrails of moving train cars is prohibited. When waiting at a pedestrian crossing for a train to pass, do not rush to cross the crossing; only do so after ensuring that no other train is moving on the track you are crossing or on the adjacent track.
