Australian Goat Meat Exports 20% Higher Than 2020

Australian goat MEAT was the strongest EXPORT in the red meat sector in 2021. In 2021, total goat meat exports are up 20% or 1,696 tonnes from 2020 levels, driven by continued growth in shipments to the US and a sharp increase in exports to SOUTH KOREA (+97%).

The US accounts for 67% of total goat meat exports each year, demonstrating the importance of the US to Australian red meat producers. In 2021, U.S. exports are up 25% year-to-date, according to Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).

Annual slaughter volumes in 2021 are 30% higher than in 2020, or 234,000 heads, while compared to the five-year average, they are 30% lower. Indeed, the increase in slaughter volumes compared to 2020 and the recovery of the national goat stock after the drought was supported by the price for 2021, which is 3%, or 28 cents / kg, higher than the 2020 average.
