
February 2, Brest. 907 fires occurred in the Brest region in 2022, Irina Tukay, official representative of the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, told BelTA.
In the southwestern region, the number of fires decreased by 7.5% over the year (981 were registered in 2021). At the same time, the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted that the number of fires in Pinsk increased by 37% and in the Zhabinka region by 24%. 77 people became victims of the fire (in 2021, there were 99 dead), including two children. "The main cause of fires with deaths is careless handling of fire. Under such circumstances, 56 people died, 46 of them from smoking," Irina Tukay drew attention.The Ministry of Emergency Situations compiled a social portrait of the victims of the fires. This is a man aged 50-65 who does not work and lives in the countryside. In most cases, ALCOHOL intoxication leads to tragedy.
Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations last year rescued 38 people during fires, including five children. Firefighters prevented the destruction of 322 buildings and 40 pieces of equipment, saved 315 livestock, 278 tons of fodder and industrial crops.
"Most fires were registered in the housing stock - 76% of the total. The main cause of fires is still careless handling of fire. And there are more such facts compared to 2021. A quarter of the fires occurred due to violations of the rules for the operation of electrical networks and electrical equipment. In 18.6%, the reason was a violation of the rules for the operation of furnaces, heat generating units and devices," the official representative of the Brest Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations drew attention.
By the way, this January, 69 fires were registered in the Brest region, in which seven people died.
