Oil and gas supplies from RUSSIA to Hungary will continue uninterrupted despite Western sanctions. This was announced on FACEBOOK (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto following negotiations with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
“We agreed that all deliveries of both oil and gas will be carried out in accordance with the contracts without interruption. Alexander Novak assured that the Russian side, despite the sanctions, could complete the repair work on the Turkish Stream, so that the gas supply to Hungary in the subsequent period would also be uninterrupted,” he wrote.
The message on the website of the Russian Cabinet of Ministers says that Szijjarto and Novak, among other things, discussed cooperation in the field of trade and energy supplies. “The Hungarian leadership has a pragmatic approach to the issue of building relations with the Russian Federation and maintaining the established channels of bilateral cooperation, despite the enormous pressure exerted by Brussels and Washington. Hungary remains, in fact, the only one of the EU countries that firmly defends its national interests, including a sovereign position in dialogue with Moscow, ”the press service of the government quoted Novak as saying.
The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that in 2022, Russian-Hungarian trade increased by 80% and amounted to $10.8 billion, while Russian exports grew 2.5 times to $9.4 billion. “Russia continues to supply gas to Hungary in accordance with contractual obligations, as well as additional deliveries at the request of the Hungarian side,” the politician added.
In early December, the European Union agreed to introduce a cap on Russian oil at $60 per barrel. Hungary, which opposed this measure, was exempted from the mechanism. In Budapest, the unwillingness to participate in the mechanisms for limiting prices for Russian hydrocarbons is explained by the country's high dependence on the supply of Russian resources.

The northern branch goes from Poland to Germany, and the southern branch goes to Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Vedomosti previously reported that deliveries via the pipeline to Hungary in 2022 increased by a record 45% and amounted to 4.9 million tons.
The Kremlin called the EU's decision to cap the price of Russian oil absurd. According to presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, such actions are "incited by the United States" and could have a devastating effect on the future of energy markets, thus "harmful to virtually all states."
