The measure will allow to “cool down” the influx of poultry products from the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus to Kazakhstan , keep their own enterprises afloat, and also preserve the HEALTH of the population, the Union believes.
“Our market is faced with the problem of gray imports, when products that do not meet veterinary safety requirements are imported into our market without the necessary documents and veterinary certificates. These products are sold at a low price, which greatly attracts the population,” said the HEAD of the Poultry Farmers Union, Ruslan Sharipov.
The APK News agency notes that the depreciation of the ruble will make Russian goods even more attractive in comparison with Kazakh ones. Gradually, the markets will be flooded with imported products and this will hit domestic producers.
“Another serious aspect of gray imports is the practice of pumping MEAT products with a solution to give them additional volume, which affects the low cost of the product. The product is sold packaged in beautiful packaging and the inflation is noticeable only after defrosting, but, nevertheless, consumers still purchase these products due to their low cost. Obviously, all this negatively affects the health of the population, especially children, and leads to the development of chronic diseases,” the Union believes.
Poultry farmers see a solution to the problem in introducing a ban on the import of poultry products from the Russian Federation by road.
The Poultry Farmers' Union notes that it is necessary to import only breeding material (day-old chicks, hatching eggs ), which is necessary for Kazakh producers due to the lack of their own breeding poultry farming.
“Domestic poultry farms today provide 100% of the market for food eggs, and 70% for meat. The proposed ban will not lead to a shortage of poultry products, because our market also receives imported products from other countries, which the Russian Federation will be able to import by rail. The main goal of introducing the ban is to reduce gray imports, which negatively affect the country’s economy and public health,” noted Ruslan Sharipov.
