After daily egg price values reached their peak, monthly averages are now also the highest in the Cepea series, in nominal terms, that is, without taking into account inflation or other market fluctuations. In real terms (IGP-DI for January), average prices for this partial period of February (up to the 26th) are record-breaking in Mirandópolis/Guararapes (SP) and in Greater Belo Horizonte (MG) – the Cepea series began in these regions in 2013.
•In the second half of the month, agents consulted by Cepea reported a slowdown in egg sales to retailers, due to the transmission of price increases to the end consumer and the period of the month when purchasing power is generally lower.
•Despite the drop in sales, egg stocks remain low. However, egg prices fell in some regions last week. Cepea researchers say the fifth heat wave has put the sector under pressure as it threatens bird welfare, productivity and egg quality, especially shell strength. Cepea says high temperatures are already causing hens to die in some regions.
