Examination for the detection of rapeseed sawfly

The rapeseed sawfly is a type of hymenopteran insect from the family of true sawflies.
Distributed everywhere. Damages mustard, rapeseed, cabbage and other plants of the cabbage family.
Imago 7-8 mm long, with two pairs of transparent membranous wings. The body is shiny, bright orange. Antennae, HEAD and dorsal sides of thoracic segments black, legs rufous yellow.
Caterpillar up to 18-25 mm long, with 8 pairs of ventral prolegs. The body is wrinkled, dotted with small warts, greenish-black above with three longitudinal dark brown stripes. The ventral side is lighter. The head is black.
Adult caterpillars hibernate in cocoons in the soil at a depth of 7-15 cm. They pupate in early spring. At the beginning of summer, the flight of imago begins. After additional nutrition on cabbage and celery plants, females lay eggs for 20-30 days, making cuts in the leaf pulp of cabbage plants with the help of the ovipositor and placing one egg under the epidermis. The average fecundity of females is 200-300 eggs. After 5-12 days, caterpillars hatch. They roughly eat leaves, leaving intact large veins, as well as buds, flowers and young pods. Their development lasts 25-50 days, after which the caterpillars go deep into the soil, form a cocoon and prepare for wintering or pupate. The pupal stage lasts 8-15 days.
Specialists of the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Rosselkhozcenter" in the Stavropol Territory conducted a survey on an area of ​​32.5 thousand hectares, the settlement was revealed on an area of ​​0.97 thousand hectares. (2.98% of the surveyed area) with an average number of 0.4 ind./m2, the maximum number of 0.8 ind./m2 was found in the Petrovsky district.
Protective measures against pests of the racial sawfly were carried out on an area of ​​0.97 thousand hectares.
The Stavropol branch recommends that agrarians use registered insecticides for rapeseed in the 4-6 leaf phase with a population of more than 3 larvae per 1 m2 and further carry out deep autumn plowing, destroy weeds of the cabbage family.
