The corporate communication service Slack warned clients from Russia that their accounts would be suspended after the imposition of US sanctions. This is stated in a letter that the company sent to Russian users.
“In accordance with current legislation, we are forced to suspend your account, and will suspend it after 30 days,” the message says ( quoted by RIA Novosti).
The same letter noted that Slack complies with sanctions and EXPORT control laws of the United States, the European Union and other jurisdictions, “including restrictions on the provision of software and services to Russia.”
On June 12, the United States introduced new sanctions against Russia, prohibiting the provision of a number of services to Russians in the field of information technology. From September 12, 2024 , it will be prohibited to provide any person in Russia with design and IT consulting services, supply cloud technologies and IT support services for enterprise management, as well as software for design and production.
At the same time, the US Treasury noted that it supports the free flow of information throughout the world, and the American authorities continue to allow “certain operations in the field of telecommunications and the Internet, as well as humanitarian operations.”
The Russian side promised to give an “adequate and decisive response” to US sanctions.
Slack began to gradually stop working with Russian users in the spring of 2022. The parent company of the Salesforce service expressed support for Ukraine and reported a small number of clients in Russia. In March of the same year, Slack announced it was disabling the accounts of Russian customers due to American sanctions. Mostly companies that came under direct sanctions then lost access to the service.
