Croatia is on unfriendly terms with Russia and the situation threatens to develop into "something unforeseen". This was stated by Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, reports N1.

“We really are in unfriendly relations with Russia. <...> This is a very dangerous situation that threatens to develop into something unforeseen, I hope it will not develop,” he said.

At the same time, according to him, Croatia does not take an active part in the fight against Russia, like some other countries "which are de facto at war."

Russia expanded the first list of unfriendly countries Politics

In mid-April, the Croatian Foreign Ministry demanded that 18 Russian diplomats and six members of the administrative and technical staff leave the country. The ministry stressed that Zagreb condemns Russia's "aggression against Ukraine and numerous crimes" and called on Moscow to urgently stop hostilities and withdraw troops from Ukrainian territory.

In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry declared five Croatian diplomats persona non grata. In addition, on July 22, Russia expanded the first list of unfriendly countries that commit unfriendly actions against Russian diplomats. The updated list includes Greece, Denmark, Slovenia, Croatia and Slovakia. Countries will be limited in their ability to hire embassies, consulates and representative government agencies of workers located in Russia. Slovenia and Croatia were banned from hiring employees altogether.

In April 2021, Vladimir Putin signed a decree “on the application of measures to influence (counter) the unfriendly actions of foreign states,” limiting the employment of countries unfriendly to Russia in diplomatic missions. In May of the same year, the United States and the Czech Republic were included in the list .

Since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, the European Union has already imposed several packages of sanctions against Moscow, including against government and financial organizations, as well as on the supply of certain metals and energy resources. The latest package of sanctions - the "sixth and a half" - was introduced by the EU on July 21. Among other things, the EU banned the purchase of Russian gold and expanded the list of dual-use technologies prohibited from being supplied to Russia.
