The airline "Kamchatka" announced its decision to cease operations, RBC was told in the press service of the carrier.

The reason was the termination of the US contract for the supply of three Cessna Grand Caravan EX 208B aircraft and the recall of the only Grand Caravan EX 208B aircraft used by the carrier.

“Unfortunately, ships of a similar type are not produced in RUSSIA yet, therefore, due to the lack of aircraft, the operation of the operating company will be terminated,” the airline representative explained.

A representative of the State Transport Leasing Company (GTLK) declined to comment. “The contract has been terminated, the issue of advance payment of equipment has been closed,” a RBC source familiar with the transaction confirmed.

In January, STLC, which acts as an intermediary, announced that it plans to deliver three American Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft to Kamchatka Airlines in the first half of 2022. The deal was approved by the government commission on import substitution. Nine more aircraft were supposed to be transferred in 2023-2027.

The Kamchatka airline was created by the structures of the developer Sergey Bachin, the general DIRECTOR of the Vasta Discovery company, which is engaged in projects for the integrated development of territories in the Russian regions. He is also known as the creator of the Rosa Khutor mountain resort in Sochi, the Zavidovo and Yaroslavl Seashore complexes in the Central Region.

The carrier is based at Yelizovo Airport in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and operates domestic flights. According to Alexander Steblin, general director of Kamchatka, residents will be able to fly from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky to such settlements as Ust-Kamchatsk and Tigil. “We intend to provide a much more budgetary price [than helicopters] for flights within the region. At the same time, we are looking at the development of tourist destinations on the peninsula,” he said.

The airline received an air operator certificate in August 2021.
