Belarus sends humanitarian aid to Sudan to help flood victims

November 21, MINSK. Belarus sent a humanitarian cargo to Sudan to help flood victims. This was reported to BelTA by the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations, on behalf of the HEAD of state and in pursuance of the decision of the Council of Ministers, organized a set of measures for the formation and delivery of humanitarian cargo to the Republic of Sudan. The delivery and formation of humanitarian aid is organized jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, the Grodno Regional Executive Committee and Bellegprom.

The rescue department recalled that the issue of providing assistance to the Sudanese side to eliminate the consequences of the devastating flood was considered during a meeting between the Minister of Emergency Situations Vadim Sinyavsky and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Sudan to the Republic of Belarus Mohammed Omer Musa Ali on November 10. During the meeting, the parties identified a list of products that the people of Sudan most need at the present time. As a result of the meeting, Belarus will hand over to the Government of Sudan gasoline pumping units, a diesel generator, canned MEAT, whole condensed MILK with SUGAR, wheat FLOUR, blankets and medicines. The total mass of cargo worth about Br1 million was about 40 tons.

Today, an IL-76 plane with humanitarian cargo flew to Sudan, accompanied by Belarusian rescuers, from Minsk to Khartoum. Refueling is planned in the Turkish city of Adana. A group of employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations who accompany the humanitarian cargo is headed by First Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations Alexander Khudoleev.

As the Ministry of Emergency Situations noted, Belarus is providing humanitarian aid to Sudan for the first time. In total, since 1999, our country has organized 76 humanitarian missions, during which assistance has been provided to 32 countries. The effectiveness of the Belarusian system of emergency humanitarian response is confirmed by many factors. In particular, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has created and successfully operates the republican special-purpose detachment "ZUBR" of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, certified according to UN standards as an international search and rescue detachment of a heavy class. In addition, the aviation of the Belarusian Ministry of Emergency Situations has repeatedly proved its high efficiency in fighting forest fires, as well as in the delivery of humanitarian cargo and personnel. it should also be noted that there is own production of food products, medicines, fire rescue, repair and restoration equipment and other goods and equipment, which are widely used in humanitarian activities. Belarus also has a highly developed national legislation that allows for prompt decision-making and the most efficient delivery of humanitarian assistance.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations noted that the Belarusian pilots, who carried out work to extinguish fires in ecosystems in Turkey, are returning to Belarus. The arrival of two Mi-8 helicopters is scheduled for this week. The pilots of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will be met in a solemn atmosphere.
