In the Altai Territory, two men were detained with weapons and butchered carcasses of wild animals, the regional Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.

In the Pervomaisky district, a traffic police inspector stopped a car in which meat was transported.

“The investigative-operational group went to the place to conduct an inspection. Six sacks with butchered carcasses were seized," the ministry said.

The police checked the wooded area and found two elk skins with through holes.

The 39-year-old owner of the car and his 35-year-old comrade were seized a backpack, a knife, a flashlight, as well as a smooth-bore gun, a rifle and cartridges registered in the manner prescribed by law.

The amount of damage from the actions of poachers amounted to 80,000 rubles. The men explained that they planned to sell the meat.

The detainees face up to 2 years in prison for "illegal hunting."

Earlier in Altai, four villagers killed an elk with a roe deer and divided the prey.
