LUKOIL announced an agreement to sell its foreign assets to American investment company Carlyle, but is still in talks with other interested buyers, the company's press service reported.

“The company also continues negotiations with other potential buyers,” the statement said.

On January 29, LUKOIL announced it had entered into an agreement with Carlyle to sell its foreign assets. The deal does not include assets in Kazakhstan.

The agreement is not exclusive to the company and is subject to several conditions. Specifically, regulatory approvals are required to complete the transaction, including clearance from the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).

LUKOIL decided to sell its international assets after the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against it in late October . The US later issued a license authorizing the sale of LUKOIL's international business. Moscow considers the sanctions illegal.
