PIONEER MEIZHENG BIO-TECH (5 in1) JC1165 / Rapid tests for the determination of the residual amount of halofuginone, flavomycin, novobiocin, flunixin, dexamethasone / prednisolone in milk, wheyFrom January to June 2025, prosecutors assessed more than 400 cases of food price increases , and warnings were issued to the heads of 5,300 business entities, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov said in an interview with RBC.
He noted that price increases by producers on basic goods and services is a serious issue that affects everyone. "Prices for socially important goods, the prevention of collusion in trade, those same markups, and all other abuses in consumer markets are always under my personal control," he said.
The Prosecutor General's Office monitors pricing in conjunction with the government, the Federal Antimonopoly Service, agricultural producers, and retailers. Krasnov cited the recent record rise in potato prices as an example. "A comprehensive set of measures, including those implemented with the participation of prosecutors, has helped stabilize prices. The situation is now leveling off. Potato prices have dropped significantly," he added.
In 2024 , potato prices in Russia increased by 92%, and in 2025, the price increase accelerated—by the end of May, the vegetable had become even more expensive by 55%. This was due to a sharp reduction in planting areas after a record harvest two years earlier. Due to the crop shortage, authorities decided to import potatoes from friendly countries. At the end of May, Rosstat reported that potato price increases had virtually stopped. According to the statistical service, the vegetable fell in price by 6.9% from August 26 to September 1.
According to the Prosecutor General, in 2025, due to the unjustified increase in wholesale prices for raw milk and butter, prosecutors issued warnings to the heads of 12 major agricultural enterprises.
"I'd like to point out that we're not talking about expensive delicacies. The prices are rising for potatoes , eggs , milk, and butter—those essentials we can't live without. But some unscrupulous producers, suppliers, and retailers allow themselves to profit this way. It won't work," concluded Igor Krasnov.
