China increased meat production by 16%

China's National Bureau of Statistics released data on MEAT production in 2021. Production was 88.87 million tonnes, up 16.3% from the level reached in 2020 and just 440,000 tonnes below the record production figures announced in 2017.

Beef production reached 6.98 million tons (+3.7%), mutton - 5.14 million tons (+4.4%). Poultry meat production amounted to 23.80 million tons (+0.8%).

The number of breeding pigs and sows increased by 10.5% and 4.0% respectively compared to the end of 2020. At the same time, CHINA reduced meat imports by 5.34% to 9.38 million tons, with a clear drop in pork imports due to the massive liquidation of pig farms.
