The swimming season in the Brest region, due to its geographical location, is traditionally longer than in other regions of the country. This year it started on May 15 and will end on September 30. Local authorities, together with the relevant services, have done a lot of preparatory work to ensure that people's recreation by the water is safe and enjoyable: the water areas of reservoirs have been checked, beaches have been put in order and landscaped, the structure of rescue posts has been optimized, information and explanatory work is tirelessly carried out among citizens . BelTA correspondents visited one of the raids and the action of rescuers near the Mukhavets River in the regional center.

"We work in cooperation with OSVOD - the tasks we face are the same, therefore - only an integrated approach. They are on duty at rescue stations, we, in order to prevent and prevent disaster, are on duty in those places where they are absent and which are prohibited for swimming, as well as we are monitoring in places popular with people," Irina Tukay, official representative of the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations , puts up to date .

In Brest, there are several places of recreation near Mukhavets, which are beloved by the townspeople. These are the Central Beach, recreational areas near the Rowing Canal and in the Red Yard. The territory of rescue station No. 1 is more suitable for a relaxing family holiday, especially since a new microdistrict is developing nearby. Already in the morning, young mothers with children take their places in the sun, followed by pupils of various camps along with teachers, and soon the neighborhood is filled with cheerful children's voices.

Brest resident Vitalia often comes here with her daughter Bozena. He says they live nearby, and the place is wonderful: instead of sitting at the computer in the summer, it is better to sunbathe in the sun and swim. "We try to come in the morning or in the afternoon. We like it here, because it's clean, safe, there is OSVOD, everything is always under control," the young mother explained the choice.

The senior coach-teacher of the Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve of the sports society "Dynamo" Dmitry Chebushev brought a large group of pupils to the beach. "At the beginning of each season, at the opening of the camps, we try to convey to the children everything related to safety. We also hold a lot of events together with our departments, where we tell children about the safety that must be observed - not only on the water, in general in life. In general , all our children are very organized and disciplined, it is very easy to work with them," he said.

“Don’t swim behind the buoys, it’s better not to go into the water without adult supervision, and it’s better not to go into the water for those who can’t swim without lifebuoys,” young Dynamo player Ignat Boyko enumerates the safety rules. According to the boy, his parents taught him to swim , they also explained to him the rules of behavior on the water from an early age.

Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations communicate with vacationers, remind the telephone numbers of the rescue service - 101 and 112, hand over visual thematic products. "Our task is to reach out to everyone from young to old, to remind important safety rules, to tell how to act in a dangerous situation, and most importantly, to teach people to get out of it as a winner. We tell citizens that you can swim only in specially permitted places, you can not go into the water in a statedrunkenness , swim behind the buoys. Of course, we pay close attention to ensuring the safety of children, we remind parents that children should be at arm's length and that a culture of life safety should be instilled in them from an early age," said Irina Tukay.

According to her, the problem of people dying from drowning is still relevant for the Brest region: since the beginning of the year, 30 people have become victims of water in the region, including two children. As of this date last year, there were 25 drownings. Under the regional administration there is a diving and rescue service, which employs highly qualified specialists, masters of their craft, equipped with the necessary equipment and technology. During the raid, the rules for helping people who are in distress on the water were demonstrated.

Andrey Shklyarik, HEAD of the diving and rescue service of the fire rescue squad of the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, draws attention to the peculiarity of the beginning of this summer. "Cold nights are the specificity of the beginning of the current swimming season. This creates the illusion that the water is warm. This should be remembered when swimming long distances and diving. The water at the surface seems warm, but at a depth of about 30 cm it is cold. This can lead to to convulsions and sad consequences," the specialist noted.

He has been working in the diving service for more than two decades - he had to deal with various situations, including raising the bodies of drowned people from the bottom. “Mostly people drown in unequipped and prohibited areas for swimming. Most of them, as it turns out later, were intoxicated and violated the rules for staying in water bodies,” he added.

At this time, on the opposite bank of the Mukhavets, in the area of the City Garden, the annual joint preventive action of OSVOD and the Ministry of Emergency Situations "Swimming season - 2023" is unfolding. There are thematic platforms for holding quizzes and games, getting acquainted with the equipment and equipment used by divers and rescue services. The audience, most of whom were children, was shown the capabilities of OSVOD workers. In the water area of Mukhavets, a life situation was simulated, when two people had to be rescued at the same time, caught in the water. The children enthusiastically welcomed the successful outcome of the operation.

“We are armed very seriously compared to what it was 15-20 years ago. Drones and high-resolution echo sounders are used in the search work to quickly find the victims. There is appropriate equipment to comb the area and view it both from the air and from water. We have everything for the safe work of divers, minders, sailors, as well as for timely assistance.Preventing trouble is much easier than eliminating it.That is the point of these actions and constant preventive work: so that people are trained in the culture of behavior on the water and they themselves understood both the danger and their personal responsibility," said Alexander Segeniuk, head of the maneuver and search group of the OSVOD Brest Regional Council.

There are currently 31 rescue posts in the Brest region, 20 of which are permanent, 8 rescue stations and a maneuver and search group. In total, taking into account seasonal workers, about 250 people work in the OSVOD system, including more than 50 divers. "This year we are not creating new posts, but will relocate the existing ones to places that are massively used by the population for swimming. Such issues are currently being worked out in the Brest and Pinsk districts, the city of Baranovichi," said Vitaly Kulinich, chairman of the OSVOD regional council.

Elena Sergeevna came to the action together with her granddaughter. He says, besides that the event is interesting, it is also useful. "We must tell the guys about this. I remember that in my youth a lot of children died on the water. Now, thank God, the situation is completely different. The children are all smart, developed. I'm happy for them. we will instill knowledge in them at an early age, they will carry such knowledge throughout their lives," the Brest resident said .
