The incident occurred early this morning. A concerned resident of the regional center called 911 and reported a house on Lidskaya Street on fire, its roof completely engulfed in flames. She specified that the elderly woman and her son could be inside.

Four fire crews quickly rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, the wooden structure was engulfed in flames. While conducting reconnaissance in the burning room, firefighters found the 89-year-old woman dead, and her 61-year-old son on the floor in the next room.   it took the Emergency Situations Ministry

approximately 40 minutes to extinguish the fire. The fire destroyed the roof and damaged the walls, ceiling, and property in the house.   An investigative team is working at the scene. Experts note that careless smoking was most likely the cause of the fire. The Ministry of Emergency Situations added that the majority of fires occur in residential areas, and careless handling of fire, including smoking, is the predominant cause of tragedies. Thus, in the first 10 months of 2024 , a carelessly discarded cigarette caused 110 fires, killing 24 people, 19 of whom were intoxicated.
