June 16, Mogilev. The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Mogilev Region has established the circumstances of the murder of an elderly woman in Kirovsk, regional agency spokesperson Tatyana Starosotnikova told BelTA.
The tragedy occurred on November 22,
2024 , when a 65-year-old resident of the village of Kapustino was in Kirovsk on business. After withdrawing his pension from an ATM, he headed to his sister's to repay a debt, stopping at a local store on the way and purchasing
ALCOHOL .

the table . Over dinner and drinks, conversations began – the woman shared with her brother her worries about her eye surgery and household chores. Time flew by as they chatted, and the man realized he had missed the bus. They decided to wait for the next bus. The man went to the store for groceries, buying another bottle of alcohol. He ended up spending the night with his sister.
That evening, a granddaughter and great-grandson visited an elderly woman and discovered her grandmother's lifeless body in a pool of blood. The deceased's brother was also there. The woman immediately called an ambulance and the police.
An investigative team arrived at the scene. According to the accused, after drinking heavily that fateful evening, he began experiencing visions and hallucinations. He claimed he tried to protect his sister from men who came into the house and then went to sleep in the bathhouse.
it was in this building that the murder weapon—a knife hidden in a box—was later discovered.
During the preliminary investigation, neighbors and relatives were questioned, the accused's testimony was verified on the spot, and investigative experiments were conducted. The results of expert examinations were reviewed and added to the criminal case file. The accused did not admit his guilt.
According to the conclusion of an inpatient psychological and psychiatric evaluation, he was found sane and capable of understanding the factual nature and social danger of his actions and controlling them.

When intoxicated, he experiences fits of anger and aggression. Neighbors and representatives of the village administration note that the man periodically abused alcohol, lived alone, and did not socialize. Furthermore, he had multiple convictions, including for intentionally causing bodily harm.
Following an investigation, the actions of the 65-year-old resident of the Kirovsky District were classified under paragraph 2, part 2, Article 139 of the Criminal Code – murder of an elderly person. With the prosecutor's
approval , he was placed in pretrial detention.
