In OOO EKH, which is headed by Uktam Makhmudov, a farmer from Tomsk district, almost everything is ready to start planting potatoes and cabbage, sowing carrots and beets.
The farmer has been preparing 375 tons of seed potatoes since autumn. These are the best varieties of Colombo, Rosara, Gala, Vega and Lux. The area of potato plantings this season will be 150 hectares, beets, carrots and cabbage - 12 hectares each. In addition to white cabbage, there are plans to plant cauliflower, Chinese cabbage and broccoli. Preparation of seed potatoes for sowing has already begun.
Despite the fact that the winter storage season for vegetables is nearing its end, OOO EKH is still accepting potatoes for sale to the retail chains Yarche! and Lama. 1,400 tons of food potatoes were prepared for winter storage. In the new vegetable storage facility, which the farmer equipped in 2024 with the help of state support, the vegetables perfectly retained their taste throughout the winter period. Beets and carrots ran out in March, but there are still potatoes.
"I received a subsidy for the technical equipment of the new vegetable storage facility with a storage capacity of 4,800 tons - 40% of the costs. With the help of state support, I purchased ventilation and storage equipment: sorting and transportation lines, a pile stacker," said Uktam Makhmudov.
This season, the farmer plans to improve the territory, build an office space, a weighing area and optimize production: move a remote greenhouse to the main production site and transform it into a year-round one.
"We have already launched the 1,100 square meter greenhouse: we planted cabbage seedlings in it. In the summer, after moving the greenhouse to the main site, I plan to convert it into a year-round greenhouse. In the warm season, we will grow coniferous seedlings in it; we have been engaged in reforestation for several seasons. And in the winter, we plan to grow tulips for sale on March 8,” shared Uktam Makhmudov.
The farmer plans to start sowing carrots on May 6-7. Then, in mid-May, he will begin planting potatoes. In the first ten days of June, the farm will sow beets. And in the middle of the month, when the threat of recurrent frosts has passed, cabbage seedlings will be planted in open ground.
