RUSSIA resumed oil supplies to Brazil in September, exporting the maximum 84.4 thousand tons in 13 years, RIA Novosti writes, citing customs data. At the same time, exports of Russian petroleum products decreased by 22% in September.

After a two-year break, Russia resumed oil exports to Brazil in September, delivering the maximum in 13 years, 84.4 thousand tons, RIA Novosti reports, citing data from Brazilian customs. Earlier, BLOOMBERG and REUTERS also reported that Russia sent its first tankers to Brazil in a long time .

Reuters, citing data from the London Stock Exchange (LSEG), wrote on September 8 that Russia sent a cargo of crude oil to Brazil for the first time in a long time, seeking to diversify its list of buyers. As the agency noted, unlike India and CHINA  , Moscow’s largest buyers,  Brazil is a major producer and exporter of oil, but from time to time imports crudeoil for internal processing needs.

Bloomberg wrote that Brazil became an active buyer of Russian fuel after the European Union joined the oil embargo against Moscow in February.

From December 2022, a price ceiling for Russian raw materials came into effect at $60; the ceiling price was approved by the G7 countries (G7: Great Britain , Germany , Italy , CANADA , France , Japan and the usa ), Australia and the European Union. In addition, the EU has banned the supply of Russian crude oil and petroleum products by sea.

Russian authorities consider Western sanctions illegal. Against the backdrop of restrictions, Russia redirected about 20% of the oil supplied to Europe to Asian markets, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in April.
