The omicron strain of coronavirus has not yet been detected in the Rostov region. This was stated by the head of Rospotrebnadzor in the region Evgeny Kovalev.
“According to the institutions that conduct research, the Omicron strain was not detected in the Rostov region. At the same time, since November 27, we have strengthened the control at the Platov airport of those who arrive from Africa and Asia,” he added.
According to Kovalev, currently in the Rostov region, the Delta strain of coronavirus is most common.
It is worth noting that at the moment, not a single case of infection with the Omicron strain has been identified in Russia. At the same time, Russian President Vladimir Putin has already instructed the government to develop an updated action plan due to the appearance of another covid mutation.
A new strain of coronavirus B.1.1.529, called omicron, was identified in November in South Africa, then cases were detected in Botswana, Belgium, Israel and Hong Kong. The World Health Organization (WHO) said that this option could pose a threat to the world, but indicated that more time is needed to assess the consequences of its spread to the world.
