Horse breeding in Kazakhstan – forming herds of horses in early spring. How many mares does a young stallion have? Working in a horse center and the beauty of the dzhailau in summer footage. The science of herd management and horse breeding in our new issue.
In this video, we show work in a modern concert center. Filming of the main events took place in early April—a crucial period immediately after the harsh winter, when horses were able to find their own food under the snow. To help you enjoy the views, we've included footage from the jailau in June.
Together with scientist Amangeldy Turabaevich Turabaev and I, we will explore the technology of herd horse breeding. We are standing at a huge herd shed—a special structure designed to hold 10,000 head of cattle. This is where the herds are formed, which directly impacts the profitability and future of the farm.

✔️ Psychology and instincts . Stallions remember their mares until they are one and a half to two years old! You'll see how a four-year-old mares assemble their first herd and why it's important for a young stallion not to become fixated on one favorite.
✔️ Preparing for mating . Why stallions are fed a rich diet of oats and hay a month before the breeding season to achieve stud condition.
✔️ Trial stallions . Why veterinarians perform vas deferens surgery and how these energetic but sterile animals help manage the herd.
✔️ The lifespan of mares and stallions . Why do horses work differently in different climate zones—somewhere around 10 years, and here up to 14?
✔️ Modern accounting and digitalization . How data is entered into the ILS and IAS databases, why microchipping is necessary, and why branding with liquid nitrogen is humane and effective.
Horse breeding in Kazakhstan combines centuries-old traditions with scientific pasture management. See how the foundation for future herds is laid against the backdrop of stunning natural beauty.
What is the Horse Center? It's a large-scale, high-tech complex designed for the systematic management of a huge herd and to ensure comfortable living conditions for herdsmen in the steppe. It's not just a production facility, but a fully-fledged facility with veterinary laboratories, offices, and comfortable housing, including a cafeteria, sauna, laundry, comfortable accommodations (heating, toilet, shower, hot water, and a private kitchen ), mobile phone service, internet, a library, a prayer room, and even a cinema.
