December 8, MINSK. Belarus in terms of response to Western sanctions pressure is in step with RUSSIA. Political analyst Aleksey Dzermant shared this opinion with the newspaper, BelTA informs.
"The main categories of goods from the food counter-sanctions basket are quite significant. And despite the fact that Belarus produces both MEAT and MILK in sufficient volume, there are Western players on our market who have serious interests here. Remember the French concern Danone with its once aggressive policy on the Belarusian market. I think it would be correct to mention here the food embargo that Russia imposed in 2014 against states that imposed economic sanctions... If we add our sanctions to this, Western exporters will experience cumulative damage that will not even amount to tens of millions of euros" - said the expert.
According to him, Belarus is keeping pace with Russia in terms of responding to Western sanctions pressure. “Moreover, Russian experience shows that the mirror response to sanctions has seriously spurred both the quality and assortment, and the overall production of agricultural products on the domestic market. We can also count on a similar effect by replacing imports within the country and filling empty niches in the EAEU market.” - summed up Alexey Dzermant.
