January 12, MINSK. Belarus restricts the import of livestock from Kazakhstan and the Orenburg region of RUSSIA due to foot and mouth disease. Such information is posted on the website of the Department of Veterinary and Food Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, BelTA informs.

According to the World Organization for Animal HEALTH (OIE), in the Orenburg region of Russia, cases of disease of susceptible animal species with foot-and-mouth disease have been registered. In addition, according to the EEC and ROSSELKHOZNADZOR , cases of the spread of an unknown cattle disease with clinical signs characteristic of foot and mouth disease have been identified in the northern regions of Kazakhstan.

In this regard, from January 12, temporary restrictions are introduced on the import from Kazakhstan and the Orenburg region of Russia of large and small cattle, pigs, reindeer, wild, zoo and circus animals of susceptible species, camels and other representatives of the camel family (llamas, alpacas, vicuñas ), MEAT, meat products and other raw materials obtained from the slaughter of animals susceptible to disease, leather, horn-hoofed, intestinal, sheepskin-fur and lambs raw materials, wool, goat down, MILK and dairy products obtained from large and small cattle, other products.

Foot and mouth disease is an acute viral disease of animals, which also affects humans. The disease is characterized by intoxication and vesicular-ulcerative lesions of the mucous membranes of the oral and nasal cavities, skin. A person can become infected with foot-and-mouth disease by consuming raw milk of sick animals and products of its processing, less often through meat.
