Galina Bobyleva, DIRECTOR General of the Russian Poultry Union, noted that a noticeable decrease in purchase prices for eggs and MEAT has been observed since February, but these changes have not affected retail prices. This is due to the policy of retail chains, which makes it difficult to reduce prices for the end consumer.
In addition, according to the Rusprodsoyuz association, wholesale prices for eggs amounted to 66-76.7 rubles per dozen, which is 13-17.1% less than a year ago, although in retail they are sold for an average of 113 rubles.
Experts note that the decline in wholesale prices is a consequence of the market's recovery after the epidemic and changes in consumer habits, with chicken consumption giving way to pork. Seasonal factors such as Lent and Ramadan also have an impact on the decline in demand for animal proteins. With the arrival of spring, demand for poultry is expected to increase due to traditional picnics.
