@ BeltaPlus Olibollen (oil balls or oil balls) is a traditional Dutch and Belgian dessert served on the New Year's table. By tradition, at 00:00, the inhabitants of these countries drink champagne and have a snack with oil balls. They believe that
it brings good luck and happiness in the New Year. We are absolutely in solidarity with them, so we will try to cook a New Year's dessert at home.
Ingredients: 2 tablespoons
flour;
0.5 teaspoon of
salt;
1 tablespoon of
sugar;
0.5 tablespoons of dry yeast;
1 chicken egg;
200 ml
milk (2.5% fat);
100 g raisins (or your favorite candied fruits);
300 ml of vegetable oil;
50 g of powdered sugar.
Cooking technique: Soak the raisins in hot boiled water for 20-30 minutes.
Heat half the milk, dilute the yeast and 0.5 teaspoon of sugar in it, put it in a warm place for 30 minutes (the yeast should “earn” for bubbles to appear).
In a bowl, mix the sifted flour and salt.
Make a well in the center, add sugar and, while stirring, pour in the
milk with yeast.
Break the egg into the mixture.
Beat the dough with a mixer at low speed until a homogeneous mass is obtained.
Dry the soaked raisins with a paper towel and mix with a spoonful of flour.
Add raisins to the dough and set aside for 15-20 minutes to brew.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer to 190°C (you can use a deep pan with a small diameter instead of a deep fryer). Separately, prepare a small bowl of oil at room temperature.
Dip an ice cream scoop into a bowl of oil, then scoop up the batter and drop the scoop into the hot oil.
Deep-fry the balls until golden brown, 5 to 7 minutes, flipping if necessary.
Place finished donuts on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve warm.
Enjoy your meal! Enjoy the holidays. | Prepared by Anastasia ZLOTNKOVA, BELTA+
