Permanent mission of Russia to the EU called the tenth package of sanctions illegitimate

The tenth package of EU sanctions imposed against RUSSIA was adopted without the approval of the UN Security Council. This is stated in the comments of the Permanent Mission of Russia to the EU.

“The next restrictive EU measures against Russia, like all previous ones, are illegitimate. They were adopted without the approval of the UN Security Council and are therefore illegal. The European Union cannot fail to understand this, which means that all its words about its adherence to the UN Charter are an empty phrase,” the permanent mission said.

The Permanent Mission specified that for the first time the European Union imposed restrictions on the transit of a number of goods through the territory of Russia. “This is nothing but an attempt to put pressure on the trade relations of third countries. Such actions harm not so much Russia as international trade as a whole,” the statement said. The authors emphasize that the sanctions against the Russian media are a violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

Russia's Permanent Mission to the European Union concluded that "the tenth 'package' will not remain unanswered." At the same time, the commentary notes that the goal of Western sanctions is to “seriously hit the Russians,” when, as the Russian leadership, such a task as “deteriorating the socio-economic situation of Europeans” does not set.

On February 25, the European Union approved the tenth package of sanctions against Russia. Within its framework, restrictions were introduced against 96 organizations, and the lists of goods prohibited for EXPORT from Russia, including bitumen and rubber, were expanded. Also, the EU countries imposed a ban on the provision of gas storage facilities and included three Russian banks in the sanctions register - Rosbank, Tinkoff Bank and Alfa-Bank.
