December 29, Minsk. To avoid food poisoning, when preparing holiday meals at home, first of all, you should follow the rules of hygiene, keep the room clean, and wash your hands before and after cooking. Such information is posted on the website of the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health, BelTA informs.
Experts recommend keeping the kitchen clean. Work surfaces must be clean, especially when preparing high risk foods such as meat, poultry and eggs. Separate cutting boards and knives should be used for cutting raw meat, poultry and vegetables and stored separately to prevent bacteria from spreading to other food products.
It is important to properly store food products, experts emphasize. Do not keep raw and finished products on the same shelf of the refrigerator. When cooking, it is necessary to observe the correct temperature regime and maintain the necessary time when frying, boiling meat, eggs, and other ingredients for festive dishes. Wash greens, raw vegetables, fruits thoroughly under hot running water.
Experts do not recommend preparing food for several days in advance, since storing it even in the refrigerator does not guarantee safety. At the same time, the leftovers of festive dishes should be put in the refrigerator as soon as possible. However, food safety starts at the grocery store, so it's important to choose your products carefully. Particular attention should be paid to perishable products - semi-finished meat products, boiled sausage, salads, cottage cheese, milk, confectionery, etc. When buying such products, be sure to look at the expiration date and storage conditions. If the product has expired or there is the slightest suspicion that the refrigeration equipment is not working efficiently, the product should not be purchased.
It is important to refuse to buy products in places of unauthorized trade from random people, home-made canned food - meat, fish, mushrooms - is especially dangerous. Consumption of such foods can lead to serious food poisoning and even botulism.
The Sanitary and Epidemiological Service emphasizes: everything should be in moderation, you should not abuse food and alcoholic beverages. Holidays should be spent actively in the fresh air.
