UK increases quotas for poultry imports from Brazil

After Brexit, the European Union and the UK established an initial agreement to share existing tariff quotas (with different tariffs) for the sale of poultry MEAT, and the British Isle received a total quota of 79.9 tons of chicken meat per year.

After long and detailed negotiations conducted by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein Producers (ABPA), the volume of tariff quotas was expanded to 96.5 thousand tons per year.

“The initial separation did not correspond to market realities. Now the quotas for the UK have been expanded for almost all tariff items. Particular attention was paid to boiled chicken and salted chicken. We should already see positive results in our exports from July, when the quota comes into effect,” analyzes ABPA Market DIRECTOR Luis Rua.

According to ABPA President Ricardo Santin, these opportunities should generate more than $60 million in additional revenue from the sale of poultry products to the United Kingdom.

“This was an important achievement for the Foreign Office and the Ministry of Agriculture, which should have a significant positive impact on the overall balance of the country's poultry supply at the end of this year, as well as strengthen Brazil's position as an excellent partner for the supply of poultry products to the British market,” Santin appreciates.
