“Due to repeated cases of attacks on livestock and to regulate the number of predators in the regions of the republic, a round-up of wolves was announced. Under the leadership of game managers of the State Committee for Hunting and Hunting of Tuva, a commission was organized in each district and brigades of wolf hunters were created, which in total involved 747 people, 112 cars, 20 snowmobiles and 109 horses. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic, since the beginning of wintering, predators have killed 338 heads of livestock, of which 56 heads of cattle , 232 heads of small ruminants and 50 horses,” the report says.
Particular activity of animals is observed in the Piy-Khem, Chaa-Khol, Kaa-Khem, Ulug-Khem, Tere-Khol and Todzha regions of the republic. “According to the winter route census, there are now about 1,150 individuals [wolves] on the territory of the republic, and the permissible number of animals for the republic is considered to be 900-1000 heads,” the government explained.
Tuva is one of Russia's leaders in cattle breeding. There are more than 1.5 million heads of small and large cattle on the territory of the republic.
