As a reminder, the marking procedure will become mandatory from March 1, 2024. Appropriate changes have been made to the law "On Veterinary Medicine". The list of farm animals that must be tagged includes cows, horses, donkeys, pigs, bees, camels, sheep, goats, poultry, deer, fur-bearing animals, rabbits, and fish.
However, not all private farms are now ready to mark their livestock. “The population is afraid, somewhere they don’t open the door, somewhere they hide the livestock. We work with each one: we explain that the procedure is mandatory, it is carried out by veterinarians,” said Alexander Shakin, HEAD of the State Veterinary Service of Chuvashia.
The purpose of the marking is to trace the movement of farm animals. The real picture of the number of animals in private farmsteads will be viewed, it will be easy to track the route of a "possibly" sick animal or product. Thanks to the labeling, the substitution of one animal for another, the transportation of animals that have not been subjected to preventive treatments, will be excluded.
In total, there are more than 400 thousand head of large and small cattle, pigs and horses in Chuvashia. All of them are registered. Of these, 21,000 have already been marked with unique alphanumeric identification numbers provided exclusively by the ROSSELKHOZNADZOR, and which will be valid throughout the life of the animal.
After marking, the data is entered into the information system for automating work in the field of agro-industrial complex and veterinary medicine in the Chuvash Republic. The digital service was introduced at the end of 2022. The system provides reliable synchronization of information about private farms, automating the accounting and registration of farm animals, control of the epizootic situation, work with animals without owners, analysis of indicators and reporting.
“Our task is to mark all animals before the innovations come into force. To do this, we need to inform people more that this is a safe procedure and does not lead to the need to pay tax on existing animals,” said Sergei Artamonov, Deputy Prime Minister of Chuvashia.
The legislation stipulates that the marking of animals is carried out by the owners of animals at their own expense independently or through the involvement of other persons, and the registration of animals is carried out free of charge.
