USA: Cattle market overview for the 49th week of 2021

The cost of Choice meat in the US market fell by $9.82 over the past week, the price of Select beef decreased by $6.4. Choice/Select price leverage dropped to $12.30.

Live cattle futures fell for the second consecutive session due to disappointing export sales of beef in the last reporting week and stable performance in the cattle markets.

Exporters sold 14,658 tons of beef last week, the lowest weekly volume in seven weeks, according to the USDA .

The February CME cattle contract fell 0.875 cents to 137.800 cents a pound. January feedstock rose 0.675 cents to 165.075 cents a pound, while deferred contracts fell in price. 

Retail meat prices continued to be high in November, according to USDA data. The November retail price of beef fell to $7.85 a pound - less than one percent (-0.6%) from last month's record price of $7.90, but the price was still down 23.9%, or 1 .51 dollars higher than a year ago.
