Supplies to China are still just getting going. Rusagro

, agroholding company implementing a large-scale pig farming project in Primorsky Krai, reduced pork production (live weight) by 8% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year, to 79,000 tons. The decline was due to the African swine fever ( ASF ) outbreak in 2023 and subsequent measures to eliminate production risks in Primorsky Krai, PrimaMedia news agency reports, citing Rusagro. Two complexes in Rusagro's Primorsky cluster have been occupied (in February 2024 ), and the remaining three complexes are scheduled to be occupied in the third quarter of 2024. Rusagro is one of Russia's largest agricultural holdings. It ranks first in sunflower oil and margarine production, second in sugar and industrial fats, and third in pork. The company's assets are located in 15 regions of the Russian Federation, including Primorsky Krai. The group's land bank comprises 685,000 hectares. Rusagro's pig farming project in Primorsky Krai is also targeting the Chinese market. However, the neighboring country continues to restrict imports of Russian products, despite Russia receiving the right to supply pork late last year. The Rusagro-Primorye full-cycle pig farming cluster project (part of the Rusagro Group) has been underway since 2016 within the Mikhailovsky Priority Development Area (PDA) in Primorsky Krai. It will comprise 13 production facilities, including several pig farms, a feed production complex with an elevator, a vehicle fleet, a meat processing plant, and a semi-finished products workshop. The complex was planned to reach its full capacity of 75,000 tons of pork in 2023. Andrey Dalnov, chief industry analyst at Rosselkhozbank, previously forecast that pork consumption in Russia in 2024 could reach 31.9 kg per capita, up from 30.3 kg in 2023. The analyst believes that in 2024, pork will closely approach the leader in the Russian meat basket—broiler. In July, Rusagro Group PJSC was added to the list of economically significant organizations (ESOs). The ESO status, introduced by Federal Law No. 470-FZ, allows their Russian beneficiaries to obtain direct ownership of the shares and stakes of such organizations through the courts , excluding foreign holding companies (FHCs) from the ownership chain, or transfer the rights to them to someone else. Furthermore, the law

Allows the court to temporarily suspend the corporate rights of the IHC, such as voting at meetings, receiving dividends, and disposing of shares and stakes, in relation to the EZO. This court-ordered mechanism for suspending foreign participation in organizations was first used by the authorities against X5 Retail Group.
