December 25, St. Petersburg . At the EAEU summit in St. Petersburg , President of Belarus ALEXANDER LUKASHENKO said that the union maintains a high level of self-sufficiency in raw materials and key types of food, BELTA correspondent reports.
“Which is very important. They said a lot that we won’t be able to live on our own. Well, we are provided with key species,” noted the Belarusian leader.
For example, the EAEU countries hold second place in the world in oil and gas production and production of mineral fertilizers, third in the production of wheat, potatoes, and livestock products, and fourth in coal production. “The differences between the leaders are very small,” the President clarified.
Alexander Lukashenko recalled that at the very beginning of its functioning, the EAEU had a negative foreign trade balance for food products, which amounted to almost $13 billion in 2015.
“Now, thanks to well-coordinated work within the union, we have eliminated the imbalance and achieved a positive food supply. This is the most important factor. We have fed our people and are providing for other countries in the world. A high level of food self-sufficiency has been achieved, which, for example, in Belarus is almost 100%. With our own production, we cover our domestic needs for grain, pork, poultry, MILK , vegetables, vegetable oils, chicken eggs and other products,” the President said.
“Give it to us, don’t be greedy,” Russian President Vladimir Putin remarked to this, not without a bit of humor .
The HEAD of the Belarusian state also drew attention to the fact that such results were achieved in very unfavorable external conditions, when geopolitical competitors openly set out to tear apart and divide the allies. “But we have overcome this challenge together and are steadily moving forward,” Alexander Lukashenko emphasized.
