The Prosecutor's Office of the Rechitsa District, together with representatives of the education department of the Rechitsa District Executive Committee and employees of the Rechitsa Social and Pedagogical Center, during monitoring of large low-income families raising four or more children, revealed the presence of unfavorable conditions. An order was issued that initiated a social investigation, the purpose of which is to protect the rights and interests of children in a socially dangerous situation. BELTA was informed about this by the information service of the Gomel Region Prosecutor's Office.

“At the request of the prosecutors of the Gomel region, in 2023, 85 children from 35 families were recognized as being in a socially dangerous situation, and 12 children from three families were recognized as in need of state protection,” the prosecutor’s office noted.

In particular, when visiting a large family of a resident of the village of Kozye, it was established that she had four dependent children aged from 3 to 17 years. At the time of the family visit, the children were at home under the supervision of their older sister, who at that time was supposed to attend classes at the Rechitsa State Technical College. There were two other unrelated minors in the house, whose families live in the same village.

Employees of the prosecutor's office stated that the children were raised in inappropriate conditions: the house was unsanitary, there was an insignificant supply of firewood, which would provide heating for only a week, and there was no supply of food intended for feeding children in accordance with their age. At the same time, the three-year-old girl was not assigned to a preschool institution and was at home. Safe living conditions were not created in the stove-heated house: autonomous fire detectors did not work. Household garbage was scattered around the property, and plastic and glass bottles of alcoholic beverages could be seen in it.

The prosecutor's office gave another example. In the apartment of a resident of Rechitsa, where the family has four children aged 7 to 17 years, there was also complete unsanitary conditions. The mother did not fulfill her responsibilities for raising her 17-year-old son properly. Since September last year, individual preventive work has been carried out with the teenager due to the use of alcoholic beverages.

Third example. When visiting the home of a large family in Rechitsa, in which five minor children are being raised, prosecutors also observed unsanitary conditions: layers of dirt on the floor, household garbage scattered, unwashed dishes in the kitchen, remains of dried food and cigarette butts on the table, a lot of garbage bags in all living areas with waste. Two young children were at home without adult supervision.

As a result, the prosecutor of the Rechitsa district issued an order to the HEAD of the education department of the Rechitsa district executive committee, in which he demanded to conduct a social investigation in each of the families visited and to ensure the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of children. As of today, the investigations have been completed. Their results will be considered by the district coordinating council and will decide whether to recognize children from the described families as being in a socially dangerous situation.
