Nipah virus , which can be transmitted from animals to humans, causes serious illness and was first identified during an outbreak in Malaysia in 1998-1999. Infections are associated with high mortality rates, particularly in Southeast Asia. Currently, there are no licensed vaccines or treatments for pigs or humans, making this disease a serious public health threat. The World Health Organization estimates the mortality rate of Nipah at 40-75%.

Four years ago, a test system for detecting this virus was created in Russia.
