
As of January 1, 2021, the pig herd in Denmark has grown by 5.2% year on year. According to the latest data published by the State Statistics Service, at the moment its number is 13.4 million units.
The Danish Council for Agriculture and Food recorded the largest gains in the fattening pigs and piglets segments.
British Agricultural and Horticultural Development Commission (AHDB) livestock market analyst Charlie Reeve noted that the number of pigs sent to slaughter in Denmark increased by 11% year-on-year, likely due to reduced supplies to Germany in due to the excess of pigs of slaughter conditions, which lingered on German farms during the closure of large MEAT processing plants.
According to the data on international trade of the statistical service of the European Union (Eurostat), in January-November 2020, the EXPORT of piglets from Denmark to Germany decreased by 4% (241 thousand heads). However, the export of pigs weighing over 50 kilograms and breeding young animals increased by 112% (113 thousand heads) and 25% (41 thousand heads), respectively.
