The discussion was held within the framework of the II Eurasian Economic Forum. The session was moderated by Yulia Melano, adviser to the HEAD of ROSSELKHOZNADZOR , editor-in-chief of Veterinary and Life.
“According to the forecasts of the UN FAO, and experts of the National MEAT Association share these estimates, meat production in the world in 2040 should increase by 100 million tons. This is a huge, complex and almost impossible task,” Maxim Sinelnikov said.
The total global production of all types of meat (pork, beef, lamb, poultry meat), according to experts, should reach 430 million tons by 2040. For comparison: in 2022, 328 million tons of meat were produced in the world.
Explaining the difficulty of realizing such a goal, the expert said that world production today is facing a wide spread of dangerous animal diseases. “Dozens of countries have already suffered multibillion-dollar losses due to epizootic trouble. Few people managed to defend themselves 100%. Responsible governments are taking unprecedented measures to protect against threats,” the expert added.
According to him, the EAEU member countries have several competitive advantages. They have suitable natural and climatic conditions, the necessary resources for a significant increase in the production of meat of all kinds. “However, without veterinary specialists, science, prompt response to challenges and readiness for epizootic risks, as well as effective interaction between the veterinary services of our countries, it will be impossible to manage these risks, let alone talk about the development of animal husbandry,” the expert added.
Recall that at the end of 2022, RUSSIA produced about 11.6 million tons of meat. The country is the world's fourth largest meat producer after CHINA , the United States and Brazil.
